# Polyurethane Lining

Every product has a certain lifespan. Over time, depending on the extent of damage, a part may need to be repaired or replaced. This process can be lengthy and lead to downtime.

Accelerating this process is possible with [polyurethane lining](https://www.timol.com.ua/futerovka-valov). It can be performed directly at the mechanism's workplace.

## What is Lining? Types of Lining

The word itself comes from the German ***futter*** - "lining". The term "lining" refers to the process of covering equipment, parts, and mechanisms with a protective layer. This technology is also applicable for restoring damaged items.

Polyurethane lining can be performed using various methods:

- PU rings;
- PU lining sheets;
- ready-made inserts;
- hot adhesion.

Which method is ideal for you depends on the equipment's purpose and the extent of damage.

Rings are often used for renewing the shafts of belt conveyors. This method is convenient because the ready-made rings are simply stretched onto the shaft. The work takes minimal time and does not disrupt the enterprise's operational mode.

Lining with ready-made inserts is also promising. This method is suitable for internal cladding. Ready-made structures are inserted into the pipe. It is convenient to use during the assembly of equipment. Applicable for elbows and angular sectors. The ready-made inserts are secured by flanges, allowing for free application. During operation, metal and polyurethane expand, but due to the free connection, they do so independently of each other.

Using ready-made inserts is an ideal solution for chutes. It helps reduce grain loss and increase the profitability of the enterprise.

Applying a polyurethane coating using the hot adhesion method ensures a reliable and durable bond. The protective layer and the metal being coated form a single entity and behave similarly during expansion. This technology eliminates PU peeling.

Lining with sheets is the most labor-intensive process, requiring a lot of time. The sheets are secured with glue or bolts. The bonding technology is suitable for straight sections.

### Advantages of Polyurethane Lining

Polyurethane is a synthetic material. It is obtained by adding additional compounds to crude oil products, depending on the type of polyurethane needed. The material has exceptional elasticity and belongs to the group of elastomers.

Its remarkable capabilities have been known since the 1930s. Initial experiments demonstrated that polyurethane:

- is resistant to temperature fluctuations. It does not deform when the thermometer rises to +80°C or drops to -20°C;
- has a long service life;
- is easy to clean, as it repels dust and dirt;
- withstands aggressive environments well. PU products can be used in salty water for extended periods. Oil products, technical oils, and acids (except for phosphoric, ozone, and methanoic) do not degrade this material;
- is not subject to corrosion.

Mold and fungi do not grow on polyurethane. It has no unpleasant chemical odor and is harmless to humans and the environment.

After polyurethane lining, equipment significantly increases its service life and contributes to improved production profitability. For example, lining chutes can reduce grain losses from 3% to 4%, resulting in substantial profit.

### How to Choose Polyurethane for Lining

The result of lining should be a wear-resistant layer. Not every grade of PU can boast this. When ordering polyurethane lining, carefully examine the offers. Price is not the only important factor; it is crucial to determine how wear-resistant the material will be. This can be done simply: scratch the surface. If no marks remain, it is what you need. If a scratch appears or, worse, thin shavings come off, the material does not meet the required standard.
